CNDCF and KWCF unify to become Waterloo Region Community Foundation

KITCHENER, ON (July 4, 2022) – Over the past year, Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Foundation (CNDCF) and Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation (KWCF) have been in a process to determine whether working together would have a greater impact for the communities we serve. Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF), a new unified foundation that will build on the natural and long-standing relationships between the two organizations and collectively across the region.

The benefits of unifying and becoming WRCF include:

  • Better overall solutions for our communities

  • Ability to collectively look at townships and cities without leaving places and people out

  • Creating and evolving grant streams to bring the community together

  • Increased awareness of partnership opportunities in areas such as impact investing

  • Additional opportunities to engage philanthropic people across the region

  • Regional focus, in addition to continued local connections throughout Waterloo Region

  • Ability to collectively focus on affordable housing and other big community issues

Our Board and team have created a new mission and vision that reflects WRCF’s role in supporting communities across Waterloo Region.

Vision: Sustainable. Equitable. Thriving Communities.

Mission: Bringing communities together to solve the issues of today and tomorrow by amplifying voices, maximizing resources and co-creating solutions.

A new visual brand has also been designed to represent WRCF’s values, and to align with our focus on equity and engaging in trust-based philanthropy in new and important ways.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our organization,” said Lori Payne, Board Chair, Waterloo Region Community Foundation. “WRCF will continue to centre our actions around our three major areas of impact – Granting, Impact Investing and Convening. At the same time, we see the incredible potential of increasing our collaboration with individuals and organizations to work together to develop forward-thinking solutions to meet current and future needs across our community.”

“The work of WRCF will be driven by our values,” explained Mike Braga, Vice Chair, Waterloo Region Community Foundation. “We will continually strive to be equity-focused catalysts, who are collaborative, approachable and accountable, to maximize impact.”

Over the coming weeks and months, you will notice updates to our materials as we transition to become one foundation. We encourage you to visit our website at www.wrcf.ca to learn more about how you can partner with WRCF. Together we will ensure Sustainable. Equitable. Thriving Communities.

Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF) collaborates with partners to create sustainable, equitable and thriving communities. We connect regionally and locally, working with three cities and four townships – to include the people and places across our region. Together, we develop forward-thinking innovative solutions and seize opportunities to meet current and future needs of our community. We make philanthropy easy for individuals and companies to support organizations and issues they care about. WRCF is focused on Granting, Impact Investing and Convening to make measurable and sustainable impacts. Gifts are directed to WRCF's endowed funds that drive positive change through grants with the income generated being distributed in partnership with Fundholders to support a wide range of charitable causes within our community. A portion of the endowed funds are also used for impact investments that deliver both financial returns as well as positive social or environmental outcomes. As a leading community-building organization, we also work to amplify voices and issues of importance by convening conversations and sharing information, while approaching our work with an equity mindset. www.wrcf.ca
