Just released: Vital Ideas® Report focused on social infrastructure and places
When people talk about what it takes to strengthen social infrastructure, they talk about the importance of place.
What makes a space somewhere people actually want to return to? What makes a space become a place? WRCF's newest report, Vital Ideas®: Social Infrastructure and Places, builds on WRCF’s 2025 Vital Signs® Report by taking a closer look at the everyday places that hold our community together, from parks and libraries to markets and community centres.

This 1st report in a new series, has been created in partnership with Lead Author and Researcher, Dr. Troy Glover, and contains information, community stories, resources, and actions we can take to strengthen the social infrastructure across Waterloo Region.

Do More Good Dialogue Recording: Shared Places: From Infrastructure to Interactions
On June 4, 2026, WRCF hosted an in-person Do More Good Dialogue: Shared Places: From Infrastructure to Interactions. We invited Daily tous les jours, an award-winning art and design studio, to talk about some of the creative ways places can inspire connection.

From left to right: Mandy Bujold, John Egoff, Eric Avner (WRCF President & CEO), Eekta Trienekens (artist), Kurtis Rideout, Harleen Kaur Dhillon (The Community Edition), Bashar Al-Hendi, Faaez Al-Hendi (Ammar’s Market).
Following a call to the community for nominations, WRCF recognized two individuals, one organization, and one company whose exemplary volunteerism and contributions to local communities have made a positive impact in Waterloo Region. We are pleased to share the recipients of those awards, and some of the ways they have provided support.
