Continuing a Legacy of Growth, Leadership, and Opportunity

For more than 50 years, Camp McGovern provided children and youth with unforgettable experiences that built confidence, friendships, resilience, and leadership. Thousands of young people discovered their potential around the campfire, on the Saugeen River, and through experiences that shaped the rest of their lives.

Although Camp McGovern no longer operates a physical camp, its mission lives on.

The Camp McGovern Legacy Fund, established in partnership with Waterloo Region Community Foundation, ensures that future generations of children and youth from Waterloo Region continue to benefit from the same life-changing opportunities that Camp McGovern provided for over five decades.

Preserving a Legacy

The Camp McGovern Legacy Fund was established through the responsible stewardship of Camp McGovern's assets following the sale of the camp property. Rather than allowing Camp McGovern's legacy to come to an end, the Board of Directors chose to invest those resources into a charitable fund in partnership with Waterloo Region Community Foundation.

While the Fund was established through this initial investment, its impact will continue to grow through the generosity of donors, community partners, and supporters who share Camp McGovern's commitment to helping young people develop confidence, leadership, and lifelong connections through camp.

Our Purpose

The Camp McGovern Legacy Fund exists to remove financial barriers that prevent children and youth from participating in high-quality camp leadership experiences.

Rather than operating a camp of its own, the Fund supports participation in established camps whose values align with Camp McGovern's long-standing commitment to:

● Leadership development

● Inclusion and belonging

● Personal growth

● Confidence and resilience

● Teamwork and mentorship

● Meaningful outdoor experiences

The Fund places particular emphasis on supporting youth participating in Leadership-in-Training (LIT) and Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) programs, recognizing that these experiences often become the foundation for future leadership, employment, volunteerism, and lifelong community involvement.

Guided by FUN

Since its founding, Camp McGovern has been guided by a simple philosophy:

Foster self-esteem, social skills, and respect for others. Uncover potential for personal growth in campers and staff. Nurture teamwork, mentoring, and leadership development.

These principles continue to guide every decision made by the Camp McGovern Legacy Fund.

Who We Support

The Fund is designed to support children and youth from Waterloo Region who may otherwise be unable to access these opportunities because of financial or systemic barriers.

Working alongside community agencies, schools, and trusted community partners, the Fund helps connect deserving young people with leadership-focused camp experiences that build confidence, independence, resilience, and lifelong skills.

Why Leadership Matters

Camp is about much more than spending time outdoors.

Leadership programs help young people develop communication skills, responsibility, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, empathy, confidence, and resilience. They provide mentorship, positive role models, and opportunities to discover personal strengths while preparing youth to become future leaders in their schools, workplaces, and communities.

For many participants, these experiences become defining moments that influence future education, careers, volunteerism, and lifelong community involvement.

By investing in youth today, we help build stronger communities tomorrow.

Your Impact

Every donation helps ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent a young person from experiencing the transformational benefits of camp.

Your generosity helps young people:

● Build confidence and resilience.

● Develop leadership and life skills.

● Form lifelong friendships.

● Discover their potential.

● Create lasting memories.

● Become engaged members of their communities.

Together, we are preserving a legacy that has enriched the lives of thousands of young people while creating opportunities for generations still to come.
